Homemade Apple Cider and Pasta

Tuesday, March 08, 2016

One of my favorite drinks to make during colder seasons is apple cider. I always found it hard to believe how expensive hot apple cider can be and never realized that it was pretty easy to make! Follow the directions and list of ingredients below to make your own apple cider and continue reading onward for an equally easy pasta recipe:

Apple cider ingredients (2 cups):
3 large apples
8 cups of water
1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon (or 1 cinnamon stick)

How to make the apple cider:
1. Peel and cut your apples into large pieces
2. Pour your 8 cups of water and begin to boil it
3. Place your apple chunks into the pot alongside your cinnamon
4. Boil for approximately 1-2 hours (the longer, the better)
5. Once it has been 1-2 hours, pour everything into a blender and blend until smooth
6. Let it cool down for a few minutes
7. Strain the apple pulp using a strainer or cheese cloth
8. Enjoy warm or cold

Pasta ingredients (2 servings):
2 cups of pasta of your choice (I used bow ties)
1 teaspoon of mixed dry herbs (I used basil and oregano; you can use fresh herbs too)
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1 half can of tomato sauce

How to make your pasta:
1. Boil your pasta with your dry herbs and olive oil until it is al dente (if you are using fresh herbs, add them last)
2. Drain the water from the pot that you cooked your pasta in
3. Turn the heat on low and pour in your can of tomato sauce
4. Cook until the sauce is well incorporated
5. Enjoy warm

These are two quick recipes that I like to make especially when I feel under the weather and do not have a lot of time on my hands. If you have any cold season recipes, do let me know down in the comments or tweet them at me!
